3DGS spatial modelling with XGRIDS workflows.

Photorealistic, browser-viewable 3D scenes — captured with rented XGRIDS equipment and processed through the 3DGS pipeline.

Volumet is primarily an equipment rental and access provider. This page describes a supported workflow and rental support option — not a certified survey, professional BIM modelling, or consultancy service.

Gaussian Splatting, briefly.

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) represents a scene as millions of tiny oriented splats rather than triangles — producing photorealistic reconstructions that render smoothly in a browser. Where a point cloud is built to be measured, a 3DGS scene is built to be experienced: reflections, soft materials, and fine detail survive in a way mesh pipelines struggle to match.

XGRIDS sits unusually close to this workflow: the Lixel K2 captures LiDAR geometry and imagery in one walk, and the LCC CyberColor pipeline reconstructs 3DGS scenes from compatible captures — alongside, not instead of, the technical point cloud. The PortalCam is the dedicated 3DGS capture camera for purely visual work.

Use cases

Where photorealism pays.

Venues & events

Browser-viewable scenes for planning, marketing, and stakeholder walkthroughs.

Real estate

Photorealistic property capture for presentation and records.

XR & virtual production

Real-world environments as reference and backdrop assets.

Digital twins

A visual layer on top of technical capture data.

Heritage

Archival capture where appearance matters as much as geometry.

Media

Spatial content production from real locations.

Device choice

Lixel K2 or PortalCam?

Choose the Lixel K2 when you need technical point cloud data and a 3DGS scene from the same walk. Choose the PortalCam when the output is purely visual — it is the dedicated 3DGS capture camera. Both rent through Volumet; PortalCam enquiries are confirmed per project.

3DGS capture, answered.

Can a rented Lixel K2 produce 3DGS scenes?
Yes — compatible K2 captures can be reconstructed into 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes through XGRIDS workflows, alongside the technical point cloud, depending on processing setup.
What do I need to view a 3DGS scene?
Typically just a browser — 3DGS scenes render smoothly on ordinary hardware. Unity, Unreal, and XR integrations are possible depending on the workflow.
Is 3DGS a replacement for point clouds?
No — they are complementary. Point clouds are for measurement and modelling; 3DGS is for photorealistic viewing and communication. The K2 workflow can produce both from one capture.
Should I rent the PortalCam instead?
If the output is purely visual — walkthroughs, marketing, XR backdrops — the PortalCam is the dedicated tool. If you also need measurable data, the K2 covers both. Describe the goal in your enquiry.
